I use the bow and arrow. I get blowed up whenever I try to kill creepers with my sword.
I feel like the bow and arrow takes too long, though. It helps that my sword has Knockback 1 on it, too.
How I Kill Creepers:
~ I wait for it to take notice of me and approach me.
~ I make sure that it is on the same ground level as me.
~ Once it is within reach, I strike it with my sword until it dies. Each time, it must be as far away as it can be. If it’s too close, it will explode.
~I feel like it is pretty efficient. Haha
